Twiga, a handmade chair inspired by Tanzania
Asante and Åke Axelsson have developed a handcrafted chair with pattern and colour inspired by Tanzania. The chair will be able to be manufactured both in Tanzania and in Åke’s workshop, and each chair will be handcrafted and unique. When manufactured in Sweden, the profit from each chair sold goes to the education of school children in Tanzania.

‘It’s a unique chair, something I’ve never done before. The basic idea is that the chair should be made locally in Tanzania with relatively simple tools using artisanal techniques. It has been a pleasure to contribute to this non-profit project for Tanzanian children's educational needs’, says Åke Axelsson.
Colour and pattern
The colours and patterns are inspired by Tanzania's traditions and vernacular design. We wanted to create a textile feel with a chair made of solid wood. Designed in Åke Axelsson's workshop, each chair is handcrafted one at a time. It will also be manufactured at a local one-man carpentry workshop in Tanzania. The profits from each chair sold go directly to the education of school children in Tanzania.
