Åke Axelsson
‘It’s a unique chair, something I’ve never done before. The basic idea is that the chair should be made locally in Tanzania with relatively simple tools using artisanal techniques. It has been a pleasure to contribute to this non-profit project for Tanzanian children's educational needs’, says Åke Axelsson.
Colour and pattern
The colours and patterns are inspired by Tanzania's traditions and vernacular design. We wanted to create a textile feel with a chair made of solid wood. Designed in Åke Axelsson's workshop, each chair is handcrafted one at a time. It will also be manufactured at a local one-man carpentry workshop in Tanzania. The profit for each chair sold goes directly to the education of school children in Tanzania.
